Hudobník Jack Gillis sa v roku 1996 oženil s barmankou Megan White a zobral si jej priezvisko. Naučil ju hrať na bicie a tak vznikla skupina (duo) The White Stripes a neprestali spolu hrať ani keď sa roku 2000 rozviedli. Hudobný štýl je niečo medzi blues, garage rock a punkom. Skupina získala množstvo ocenení vrátane 6 grammy no v roku 2011 skupina ukončila svoju činnosť. Pieseň The Hardest Button to Button je z roku 2003.
